In 1999, on what was supposed to be a day of fun and adventure on a beautiful Brazilian beach, everything changed for 9-year-old Sean Finney. While enjoying the sun and surf, a powerful wave raked him along a coral reef, leaving him with a severe injury. With the nearest hospital 3 to 4 hours away, the situation was dire.
As panic set in, a local stepped forward with a solution that would change everything—banana sap. Known in the community for its hemostatic properties, the sap was applied to the wound, and it quickly stopped the bleeding. This natural remedy not only saved Sean’s leg but also planted the seed for what would eventually become Tano Skincare.
That moment, 25 years ago, left a lasting impact on Sean, instilling a deep respect for the healing power of nature. Since that day, Sean has continued to use banana sap on himself and his family for everything from scrapes to bug bites and sunburns, especially during their time living in tropical locations. It was this ongoing connection with banana sap that ultimately led him to create a skincare line that would harness the very ingredient that once saved him.
